The Lord is... and I am His.

So, tell me, will you? How did you fill in the blank? The Lord is what?
Come on, what? How did you define the Most High Maker of heaven and earth? What combination of letters came to your mind?

Well, in my first week of law school, I've seen, heard, and assimilated things of an intense, beautiful, and new nature, and the Lord has laid HIS nature heavily upon my heart. The Bible calls God SO MANY things, and if we truly believe that He is THE truth, we must also believe that all things He says about Himself *and us* are true.
At the risk of sounding churchy, I'm going to try and articulate what God showed me this week.
First, Let me remind all of you, before you read on, that God's voice speaks truth, encouragement, life, and other positive things, but among them, conviction certainly remains.
When walking with the Lord, it is important, no, strike that, IMPERATIVE, that we remember GOD IS TRUTH, satan is the father of all lies, the Bible even goes so far as to say in one translation that when he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar, and the father of ALL lies. (John 8:44)
One lie, though, that he cannot get away with telling, is that God is not, because, well, if God wasn't, satan wouldn't really have a purpose and though he is a wimp, he is cunning enough not to tell a lie that would render him useless.
Ladies and Gentlemen, the devil himself not only KNOWS God exists, he trembles at His name.
So...the Lord is, He is present, He exists, what does that mean for you?
Well, the Lord is...and *repeat after me* The Lord is, and I am His.

The Bible says that the Lord is:

A Father to the Fatherless- Psalm 68:5
A rescuer- Daniel 6:16, I Timothy 4:17
Love- I John 4:8
To be imitated- Ephesians 5:1
Able- Ephesians 3:18-20
Giving- Luke 6:38
Given- Isaiah 9:6
A source of Life- John 10:10
Our only source of ability- John 15:5
Gracious- Psalm 145
With Us- Joshua 1:9
Willing to answer- Jeremiah 33:3
Unshakable- Isaiah 54:10
Unchanging- Malachi 3:6
A rewarder-Hebrews 11:6
Faithful-Hebrews 10:35-36
MIGHTY TO SAVE- Zephaniah 3:17

The list could go on for miles if I kept pulling out traits present in the Lord, but my point is not to pull out all of these traits and tell you what they are, although, I do hope you'll think about just what kind of God you're serving. My point in making the list is to show you that YOU SERVE a God who is JUST THAT AWESOME, and well, if you serve Him, you're HIS, and if you're His, you are thereby entitled to outpouring which all of those traits afford a child of God.
I encourage you to place one of those phrases in the blank and follow it with "and I am His."

When I take the oath to adopt children a few years from now *whenever the Lord allows*, as I pick up my right hand and swear to protect and care for that child, one of the things I will swear to is that said child will receive the same rights to inheritance as if he/she were a natural born child. I must promise that no distinction shall ever be made in my home with regard to that child, that he/she will be mine, end of story.
This, essentially, is what has happened to you, the Lord is...and you are HIS.
Remember, all distinctions are gone, and He loves you because you are just who you're supposed to be. You lose some luster when you try to be anything more than the purest version of yourself, and nobody can be you better than you can.

May you know that you are HIS, and that promise, that vow, was made real by more than a law like the ones I study, eat, sleep, and breathe, it was made with the shedding of blood...in which there is power, power, wonder working power...

Keep it on your door post, let them know you're His,
Court
